Standards / Learning Performances

What content standard / learning goal are you addressing in this lesson? I sure there is a standard dealing with human anatomy, so how does this standard suggest students should understand the skull/head?

You should express your learning goals as performances that can be assessed. For example, how will you know that students will understand how the brain is protected by its fluid layer? Use our list of science practices or Bloom's Taxonomy as a guide.

Is it clear that the lesson addresses both important content and scientific practices?

Not yet. You need to make this more clear.

Instructional Activities

What science practices are required?

Depending on how what questions were asked, students could be expected to state a hypothesis and defend it before doing the eggs in water activity. To me the question about the role that the fluid plays in protecting the eggs is a physics question.

How are the science practices supported?

I think your worksheet does a nice job of supporting hypothesizing and data collecting.
How will you support students explaining their observations with evidence?

How are the science practices assessed?

It would be helpful if you decided on how you will assess your students' artifacts, and in-class discussion.

Other notes:

For you second worksheet, you should
  • find clipart that is copyright free, since the photo you have now has a watermark indicating that someone else owns it. There is one free clipart site linked to URITK at WWW for Teachers .
  • adjust your spacing so that the worksheet fits on two pages. This way, you can create the handout as one page double sided, which simplifies your life during class.

Be sure to try the egg drop cases yourself to make sure you setup will work.
